Anthony Coombs died Saturday after a jump in Trollveggen. He was a really nice guy. RIP.
I'm just back from my Easter adventure. The trip went to the Alpes. We flew down to Torino and drove directly to Arco where the famous terminal wall is. I got three jumps there, one normal track jump with Martin and two wingsuit jumps (I had no problem flying back and crossing the road). On tuesday we drowe to Lauterbrunnen in Switzerland where we met Kjell Arne (Supermann) who had arranged a jump from the mushroom on Eiger for us. We flew up to the tiny rock (about 4 times 2 meters - I'll post pictures later) and flew off with my wingsuit. That was a fantastic jump. Later that day I also met Mike again. I haven't seen him since I met him in Venezuela jumping Angel Falls. We did more jumps in Lauterbrunnen (exits was La Mouse and Yellow occean). The last day I had two great wingsuit jumps. Check them out here:
Someone is sending out spam using an e-mail address from johenrik.com as a sender. Because of this I'm getting loads of mail back from mail servers complaining about non-existing reciever addresses and spam filters complaining. But worst of all a lot of people get spam sent by "me". I can assure everyone that I have nothing to do with these mails and I hate them just as much as you. As there is no validation of receiver addresses to assure that these are correct there is nothing I can do about this. I just have to sit back and hope the sender is being hit by a train, bullet or a raging bull.
Today johenrik.com is having its 5 years anniversary. On this time I've had 26730 visits, which gives an average on 7 visits a day. Not that much, but since the web site only got info about me, I don't think it's that bad. The most used search word is actually "porn" :P
I think I need to celebrate tonight :)
I just got noticed from a friend in US that I'm the on the cover photo of the current issue. Run and get yourself a copy.
A short video of my jump in Angel Falls is also available here. A longer video of my trip is altso in the making.
After arriving back in Norway again and getting back to the normal winter days here I found out that I need a winter activity to get me going through the sesaon. Today I was at Whitewater and bought an overpriced (but suposedly very good) snowboard. It's a Rome Flag with some nice bindings and shoes. On Friday I'm going to Hemsedal to try it out. It will be my first day in the slopes for very many years and I'm really looking forward to it :)
Thursday 8th of December I arrived in Caracas, Venezuela. I hooked up with some of the other guys and went straight to a night club. Heavily armed commandos from the Venezuelan National Guard joined us, so we felt very safe :)
The rest of the guys (and girls) showed up the day after. We had a nice dinner at the hotel and went early to bed. On Saturday the bus was waiting for us at 5 in the morning. The next days was used traveling. We used bus, skytrucks, helicopter and river boats and on Sunday we arrived at Base Camp at the bottom of Angel Falls. The weather wasn't very good, so we sat down and waited. I was one of the four lucky jumpers picked out for first load and when the weather cleared up we and Marty, the photographer, got in the helicopter and was placed on the top. Right after the helicopter left we had a complete white out. The clouds came in really quick so we had to sit down and wait. The weather stayed bad the whole day. It was too much of both clouds and winds to both jump or be rescued by the helicopter.
Night was quickly approaching so we had to find shelter for the night. Somewhere on the top of the falls we fould a small cave. We all crawled together in the small cave and eventually got some sleep. Personally I slept pretty well (still wearing my body armor) but the other guys weren't that satisfied. The morning after we got up at about 5.30 and walked over to the exit point. At 6 o'clock we sat there watching the sun come over the horizon. The weather was still not good enough to jump so we sat on the exit waiting for a few more hours. After a while the helicopter arrived with another load of jumpers so we got more company.
After a couble of hours the weather cleared up and we got ready to jump. The jump it self was beautifull. I had fantastic 17 seconds of freefall with great visuals. Our landing area was a tiny little opening in the jungle. I nailed the landing and could just relax and laugh at all the guys landing in trees around. One of the guys (Jack) ended up about 25 meters up in a tree and had to be rescued by the helicopter.
The trip was a huge success and sitting at work back in Norway again is kind of sad. Allthough, if I work hard for some months again now, I'm ready for my next adventure :)
Tomorrow morning I'm boarding my plane to Venezuela. I'm done shopping in Vegas and done jumping small stuff here in the US so I'm setting course towards the big stuff. On Saturday or Sunday I'm hopefulle base jumping of Angel Falls. I brought my wingsuit and can't wait to fly it in the Falls.
I'm back again. A bit more than a year since I was here last time. The city is the same, only a little more of everything. I drove here from Texas and stopped at Grand Canyon on the way. So many exit points... I'm going to stay here in Vegas for a couple of days before I leave for Venezuela and Angel Falls.
